James started out as an electrical helper in 1987 and transitioned into the elevator trade as an IUEC elevator mechanic apprentice, finishing the NEIEP training and became a mechanic in 1994. Over the next 18 years, James has worked in various roles of the industry in construction, modernization, service repair, and maintenance before moving on into management.

 James spent the next 11 years in operations management, first as a supervisor, then project manager, service operations manager and construction operations manager before moving into full time inspections in 2023.

The elevator trade (along with earning two business degrees and continued specialized certification training) has given James unique learning opportunities and earned experience for the inspection sector of the commercial building industry; as the installations, inspections and maintenance of elevators requires various trades to work collectively with all other building trades from structural, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, life safety/fire alarm to collaborative inspections, each depend on each other for the over all completion of the building, and for the safety of public use.

It is designed to identify defects within specific systems and components as delineated in the International Standards of Practice for Inspecting Commercial Properties (ComSOP) and to monitor the condition of a building over a period of time for the purposes of capital management.
